Alabama football coach Nick Sabans plan to hire former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze was reportedly killed by the SEC.

AL.com reported the following details on the situation:

Alabama was one of at least five SEC schools that had contact with Freeze about on-field jobs this offseason. Saban wanted to hire Freeze as a co-offensive coordinator and position coach, sources told AL.com.

However, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey encouraged Alabama not to hire a man as well known for the personal shortcomings that led to his Ole Miss resignation as he is for his success as a coach.

Im actually a bit surprised to see this. I didnt realize there was anybody in the world of college football capable of telling Nick Saban what to do. Wouldnt have bet on that in a million years.

You also have to love the fact Saban is making a run at Freeze. Ole Miss gave Alabama trouble nonstop under Freeze, and Saban is smart enough to know that Freeze is a good coach. Winners dont care who they associate with as long as theyre winning. I think Freeze can get that done just about anywhere, and Saban knows it, too.

Something tells me this isnt the last weve seen of Freeze.
