Dame Judi Dench has defended the wonderful Kevin Spacey, calling him a good friend and suggesting that it was wrong to replace his role in All The Money In The World.
Kevin was accused of inappropriate sexual behaviour by actor Anthony Rapp in October 2017; Rapp claimed the veteran actor tried to seduce Rapp when he was just 14 and Spacey was 26.
Director Ridley Scott then chose to replace Spacey with Christopher Plummer in the film, weeks before it was set for release.
I cant approve, in any way, of the fact that — whatever he has done — that you then start to cut him out of the films, said Judi of the decision.
Are we to do what happened when he was replaced with Christopher Plummer? Are we to do that throughout history? Are we to go back throughout history and anyone who has misbehaved in any way, or who has broken the law, or who has committed some kind of offense, are they always going to be cut out? Are we going to extrude them from our history? I dont know.
Speaking at San Sebastian Film Festival, Judi spoke of the time she worked with Kevin in 2011 just after her husband had passed away, and how Kevin was an inestimable comfort and never mentioned he knew I was in a bad way.

He cheered me up and kept me going, she added.
Dench has a tattoo on her bum cheek for Harvey Weinstein, which reads JD loves HW.
Rapp alleged that a drunk Spacey walked in on him when he was watching TV and tried to seduce Rapp.
I dont know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually, he said.

Director Ridley Scott previously said that he chose to re-film Spaceys scenes because you cant tolerate any kind of behaviour like that.
The director said: I was finished with the film and was in Abbey Road finalising the music. Someone was like: “Guess what?” And thats where it began.
I sat and thought about it and realised, we cannot. You cant tolerate any kind of behavior like that. And it will affect the film. We cannot let one persons action affect the good work of all these other people. Its that simple.
