Borussia Dortmund striker Paco Alcacer has tipped his teammate Jadon Sancho to become one of the best footballers in the world if he continues to develop his game.

The 19-year-old has been a revelation since joining Dortmund from Manchester City for £7m in 2017, establishing himself as one of the most exciting young players in Europe.

Sancho has started the 2019-20 season in sparkling form, scoring two goals and registering three assists in three Bundesliga matches for Dortmund who lie fifth in the table.

That form follows on from a 2018-19 campaign in which he scored 12 times and set up 14 goals to earn a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season as well as six senior England caps.

Former Barcelona frontman Alcacer has clearly been impressed by Sancho, saying: Hes still a kid, hes 19, has all the right characteristics, and if he doesnt suffer a dip, hell be a top player.

There are doubts because of his age, but as a player and a person in the dressing room, theres no faulting him. If he keeps improving and acquires a few more attributes, hell be one of the best in the world.

Dortmund have rewarded Sancho for his staggering rise over the past 12-months by handing him a new contract worth a reported £190,000 per week last month.

Despite tying Sancho down for the foreseeable future, Dortmunds CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke acknowledged last month it will be impossible to retain his services long-term.

There arent many 19-year-olds with such a potential, Watzke told Ruhr Nachrichten. He is also not a player from the region or one who would have any connection to it.

Manchester United are among the clubs believed to be monitoring Sancho closely having been linked with a £100m move for him during the summer transfer window.

Sancho has admitted that he would be open to returning to England at some point, although he also expressed an interest in moving to Spain if he were to leave Dortmund.
